removing unused programs in XP

i just formatted my computer, and i am determined to keep this 1 clean.

to start i want to lose all programs in XP thats i do not use and never will.

such as:
Movie Maker
MSN Gaming Zone
Net Meeting
Outlook Express

i also have another folder:
xerox

which only has xerox/nwwia directory and then its empty

how do i remove these? i dont use them and never will.

Umm, too late...

Best approach is to do a minimum, custom install of windows to start.

You may be able to ditch MSN under control panel, system, add/remove programs.

The others were woven into windows as part of microsofts attempt to con the DOJ. Trying to remove peices is risky at best. M$ does graciously (at the point of the DOJ's guns) allow you to add replacements for outlook.

How depends on which version of windows you have. Do a search on add features in help for instructions.

negative....its not to late....

click start >> control panel >> add remove programs >> add remove windows components. now just go through it and remove the check mark, from the box, next every thing you dont' want.....easy.

also, if your inerested in making your install more....'streamlined' check out this site. now you will have only what is needed to be run, running.

I think if you load sp1 you will then get the option to remove them.

Add more to "Add/Remove Components"

Here's a little trick I've been using for quite a while. Find the file X:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf and open it in notepad.
Edit menu -> Replace
Find what: ,hide
Replace with: ,
Replace All
Save the file.
Go to Add/Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components. You now have the option to disable a few more components than usual. The main ones I hit are MSN Explorer, Windows Media Player, and Windows Messenger.

Note: This won't really uninstall these programs, it just disables them. You can try all you want to kill Media Player 8 (which I detest), but Windows has it backed up somewhere and just keeps replacing it. But, at least it's better than nothing.
