reformatting new hard drive ?

can someone plese tell me the best way to format a newly installed hardrive on my system ?
i am running XP PRO, and i do not want to lose anything on my other drive . the new drive is brand new and it does not show up on MY COMPUTER ? so does it just need formatting ?

it was so easy on 98 but i am lost on xp.

What you need to do is right click on my computer and select "manage" from there go to the disk management and you should see you new hard drive listed there. from there you can partition and format your new drive.
