Is there a way to hide or somehow take away the recycle bin icon on the desktop?

[hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer
\desktop\namespace]

Expand that key and a list of clsid values will be displayed and you want to go to this clsid value:

{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

Delete the above clisid value as this is the clsid value that corresponds to the recycle bin. After deleting that value restart the computer and now the recycle bin icon wont get displayed.

Well then how do i put it back when i need it?

Export the key before you delete it or copy/paste the below in notepad and save it as a .reg file.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]
@="Recycle Bin"

Well will i still be able to delete all the stuff in my recycling bin? or will it be automatically deleted

You'll still have a recycle bin ... you just won't have an icon on the desktop.

Where would my recycle bin be located on my windows when theres no icon on my desktop?

The easiest way is to use TweakUI. There's a checkbox that you can clear to remove the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop. Just check the box again and the icon will appear again.

Agreed. Many of the MS Powertoys are extremely handy. I have most of them installed. :)

it is done with xp...it is free after all, and provided by ms...there's always polish to add to these things after they're done.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
