so, I have no recovery disc...no need, will back up....I do however have a "recovery partition"

can I overwrite this partition with xp?

I'm thinking the partition might have some protections that I might have to overcome?

Hello Perris,

I have had various Desktops/Laptops all with no media, just Recovery Partitions. Some are hidden and can only be seen in Disk Management programs. I have never come across protected partitions from the Manufacturers i have delt with though... I just format and install a fresh version of my OS.

However, you may now prove me wrong!

If they were protected it would be at disk firmware level and you'd never see it :)

you might want to resize it first as these partitions can be fairly small, mine is only 8GB..

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
