Work just ordered me a new Dell -

its got everything - but i opted to have no vid card shipped (for obvious reasons :) )

pci-express

want to stay cheap - but get the best performance

basically - i play WoW - thats about it right now

Specs - 1.86ghz dual core duo / 1gb ddr2 / 160gb sata etc

thanks in advance!

thanks Ray - ill check it out

ive always used nvidia - KINDA want to change to ATI

is there an equivelant card - same in pricing

or does it come down to just preference between nv and ati?

the x1600 series are the equivalent... but 7600's are better...

both the gs and the gt versions are great in the price/performance ratio and have good o'c with stock fan (don't buy the passive cooling ones unless you want to make an htpc)

zeke: that one's in a different price range

^^ yea - mildly... that card there has ****ty reviews though - lol

Ditto 7600 GT for most bang for the buck...

But, the pending 8600 GT and UL cards may be better when they release sometime this spring. Nvidia is holding them back to rain on the ATI parade when ATI's DX10 finally release. The 8600 GT looks like a much better deal than the 7600 GT.

ATI really does not have much of a mid-range selection, or rather their mid-range product is priced more like high end.

My selection rule:
If you want multimedia go ATI, if you want gaming go Nvidia, if you want both you're screwed.

1 more thing....

when i search, just say, newegg.com - theres like 500 BRANDS of that card - chipset is all nvidia, i get that.... but should i be cautious of the TYPES?

like...

XFX
Leadtek
EVGA
Biostar

etc

xfx, evga, asus, bfg and some others are all good... if you find an unknown brand try to do a google search to see how reliable they are

I have the EVGA 7600GT and I also play WoW on a 24" Widescreen monitor. It performs flawlessly on all the top settings. Highly recommend that card.

XFX are usually oc'd and excellent quality. I've had a few of their cards and they're always been great.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
