Re-Activating Windows XP Home

I have read somewhere that it is possible to copy a file from within Windows XP to disk to paste back into XP after a format to save contacting Microsoft and getting the third degree.

Could someone please enlighten me because after my re-activation of Office XP woes after I bought a new computer, I am loath to contact them again.

I thought I was only required to give them my name, rank and service no.under the Geneva Convention!

I forgot to mention, I am fitting a new HDD and Sound Card thus the reason to re-activate.

Any help is much appreciated.:)

Keep in mind this is for a reformat - it probably won't work if you're adding or chaning hardware - but you can try:

Copy wpa.dbl after you activated the first time (it's in the system32 folder). After reformatting & reinstalling XP just copy the file back to the same folder.

allan, thank you

allan thank you for your prompt reply I will give it a go

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
