RDRAM vs DDR

I'm working on a new P4 system. It'll be probably a 2.5 or 2.66, overclocked to hopefully a tad over 3. It's going to be used mostly for graphics rendering and video editing. Would I see much of an improvement using RDRAM over DDR? I'll probably have only 256MB either way to start off with, on an Epox board if DDR or an ASUS if I use RDRAM.

check out Toms Hardware guide for this ( here )

I curious of what model of mobo you've decided to use ...

comsin is right checkout Toms Hardware for a better understanding of this. I think I read somewhere for graphics and video work you should go with the RDRam

the difference is basically bandwidth... though that gap has shrunk with the dual channel's coming out...

toms does give an interesting description of the 2 sets of rams...

@ the moment the dual channel mobo's are the best... ie granite bay for the p4 systems using ddr... you have to buy the right kinda ddr to complement your cpu... so for a 533fsb cpu (in reality it is 133x4... quad pumped) you will get ddr with similar clocks... higher should help but might be bottlenecked... still with a board that can take 333mhz memory.. go with the ddr2700 :) its cheap..

FYi... the p4 based dual channel boards are not as optimized YET as the amd based nforce2 boards... but as the technology matures.. you will be happy...

rdram is best for right now perhaps... it does cost a pretty penny more and the dual channel does make up for a lot of the difference... but it does suit the quad pumped intel cpu's better...

I always use RDRAM with P4 boards. Expensive but the P4 runs at its full potential when paired with RDRAM.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
