Problem with xp?It randomly restarts after,Mini dump error.

Any ideas ?

Disable automatic reboot. Go to control panel > system > Advanced > Startup and recovery > uncheck automatically restart. Next time it will give you a "blue screen" error. When it does, post the stop error here. We can help from there. The error will look like 0x000...etc. Post all numbers and words that it shows.

random restarts

Done that my friend, and no blue screen??
Upto now no mini dump errors or restarts??

Next time you get an error (whenever you do) instead of restarting it will give you a blue screen.

random re-boots

i have a Dell Dimension 4300 with XP home edition on it and i too have the same problem....seems to happen to me when im online most..but i had had my modem checked out by NTL and all was fine....i then thought it could be one of my memory sticks...i have a 512mb and a 128mb in so i tried it without the 128...went a few days but the error appeared again, could try with the 512 out but wouldnt leave much for my puter to run on...then last weekend i finally done a clean install and connected the bare minimum hardware i needed...had a game of Counter Strike one night and got the error 3 times in a row.....I NEED HEEEEELLLLLP!....the error is ***stop : 0x0000008e(0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)......Dell advised me to try some things out such as resize the mini dump and disable itthere were also files they suggested i delete which i cant remeber what they were called now....Systedax i think.....anyway if anyone can help it would be great

Okay, a couple of things.

First, that error message indicates bad or conflicting device drivers. I'd suggest downloading and installing the latest drivers for all of your hw (at least the major stuff). Get them from the OEM web sites, not Windows Update

Second, you might want to go to System Properties - Advanced - Startup & Recovery Settings and where it says Write Debugging Information change the setting to NONE. This will prevent future minidump logging

Thanks Allan...i'll give your suggestions a try....do you think it couldbe my larger memory stick that could be causing this too?

I am getting this one...

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0x8052F9E3,0xF9EB091C,0xF9EB061C)

damnit! anybody know a solution?

Let us know how you go. I think you should find the fix. But who knows with windows.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
