Although theoretical write speeds should double with RAID-0, if both hard disks are connected to the same ATA-100 IDE cable, wouldn’t the cable be a bottleneck? So, effectively how much performance gain could I expect from a software RAID-0? Is a hardware RAID significantly faster than a software RAID? Anyone have benchmarked statistics? In a related matter, if my swap file is on a separate hard disk wouldn’t the bandwidth of the single IDE cable also be a limiting factor?

Gigabyte's raid is poor performance from what I have been able to gather, I would not set your expectations to high.

i was told taht for a good raid 0 to work u needed one drive on each channel and yes it would slow you down if your swap was on anouther no raided drive. but if u have enoughh ram make a ram drive for swap, that is what i do

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
