Quick restart to windows w/o reboot?

Hello all - first post. I'm a bit intimidated by all of you, so please show mercy upon a Win XP newbie.

I saw Dealer's initial post about a quick restart shortcut on the desktop. Is there any way to do a quick restart just to Windows without doing a full reboot?

Good question.
Even the w98 option to hold down "alt" while restarting hasn't worked for me on w2k and xp.
