question about DDR RAM

right now i have a 256mb ddr kingston RAm thing on m y computer. if i add another 256 but a different brand such as crutical will it screw up? my cousin had 2 diffent brands of RAM and hes win xp/pc wouldn't work and then he took one brand out and it worked.

as long as they are same type......... he prob had two different chip layouts and they didn't get along say 8x16 and a 4x64 or the such......

it good to stick with one type and not mix if you don't have to but if they are both a supported type (check motherboard manual or crucial's site to find out which types are) they should work together fine.
ive mixed makes before and all's been fine
