PSU Voltage

Are these voltage figures healthy? The +3.3V rail usually flashes leaving a red line in the graph and sometimes one of my hard drives shuts down and then restarts again so I'm not sure whether the PSU is the problem or the hard drives are dying or it might be both :dead:

No, your PSU is not supplying enough power to your 5v and 3.3 volt lines. Your 12v line is doing fine. I would suggest something a little more powerful.

Oh, and your first indication on if it was a power issue, is if there's red flashing, and your voltage to your HD dropping lower than suggested, and then the HD dieing.

Hard drives are supposed to shutdown if you have power conservation turned on. If they were not getting enough voltage they would crash, not shut down. Check under energy conservation to see if you have the HD's set to shut down after a period of inactivity.

The 4.7 and 2.9V reading are very low, IF those are correct readings. If copy of power probe is for the MB you are testing the readings should be correct.

What are the system specs and the PSU make/model?

By shutdown I meant crash :speechless:

It sounds like a drive spins down and then back up and the red IDE activity LED stays on and Windows XP freezes. I don't have any energy conservation settings enabled and the hard drives sometimes spin down before WinXP even loads up.

I installed a new PSU earlier today and so far I've not had any shut downs so fingers crossed the problem was the PSU and not the HDDs

Check the voltages in the bios as those would be correct and may differ from what probe is telling you.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
