Proper connection of Modem

Hi
Can any one tell me the proper way of connecting Modem for Dial-up. I read some where that if telephone and modem are on the same line, voltage from phone might damage Modem or Motherboard. Recently there was lightening and thunder in our place and at that time my cable was plugged to Modem. After that Modem ceased to function.

Yep thats somthing that cannot be stressed enough.. if there is a storm.. unplug ya connection, whether is cable or dialup.

Get a new modem.

Connect it any way you want, just remember to pull the plug during a thunderstorm.
