I'm trying to gut my parents PC as it in a bit of a mess. They have loads of programs running at startup and other various things I'm unsure off.

I am looking for an application that can show this and maybe remove them??

Any ideas?

Start RUN

1. Regedit HKEY-CURRENT USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT VERSION/RUN

2. MSCONFIG

I've always wondered if there was a MSCONFIG utility for Win2K, cuz I could never find one (built in I mean)

neo090282 - No offense, but based on the question you asked may I suggest that unless you know what you are doing it is very possibloe to cause much more serious problems than a lot of programs starting with Windows? Just the use of the word "gut" scares the hell out of me.

Startup Programs

Please before anyone uses "msconfig" for startup deletion/control read this: http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

Also M$ book "WindowsXP Inside/Out" the following is stated in bold print: "Although the System Configuration Utility(msconfig) is a priceless troubleshooting tool, it's lacking a few features. For instance, although you can disable a shortcut or registry entry using it, this utility won't allow you to permanently remove entries from your startup configuration or to choose from a menu of startup configurations each time you begin working with Windows. Fortunately, a quick search on the Web can help you find several useful free alternatives (to msconfig). Our favorites are Startup Control Panel available a http://www.mlin.net/StartCPL.shtml, and Startup Cop, available at http://www.pcmag,com/utilities."

"The Startup tab in msconfig is intended for use as a trouble-shooting tool---ONLY"

It almost sounds like you just wanna clean house and yer parents installed/loaded a ton of programs.

Go into *Control Panel* click on *Add/Remove Programs* and see what is listed on the list. Copy the list (write it down), don't delete/remove anything yet. Post it here and maybe we can discuse and help on what you want to get rid of and what you should and or could keep...

If that is what you are talking about.
