Program and Computer Crash

On occasions I get a program crash. Also a computer crash when closing a progam, including Outlook Express. On restarting I get "The system has recovered from a serious error".

Making use of "Online Windows Crash Analysis" I have submitted two reports using "Passport", one over ten days ago, without any response from MS. These random crashes are becoming a real pain in the neck, especially as no advice is forthcoming.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem, any solutions please?

When your PC crashes, does it display a blue screen before it reboots? The message at the top of the BSOD should give you a clue as to what might be causing the reset.

You might even be able to do a search M$ with the BSOD message to find the answer.

If the BSOD isn't displayed long enough to read it before the PC reboots, it's because XP is set to reboot on error. There is a way to make it halt or stop on error. Not exactly sure how to do this, I'm sure there is a thread here somewhere that explains it.

how too........

right click on my computer icon, properties, advanced tab, start up and recovery hit settings , remove the auto restart check mark, and even if you let it restart you can go look at the log file and get all the info from there (error messages) its the log file here>>>>>>>>>>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson and all your errors are listed it will give you all the info you need to debug :D

good luck

Are all your hardware up to date? I had a problem where my comp froze at random times. I found out that it was my video card's problem and had to reinstall the driver. :)

Thanks to all for suggestions and help.
It may be coincidence, but since disabling auto restart I have not had any computer crashes or at least not yet !!

Here is one one of the many Error messages I have found following Kermit's kind instructions, but unfortunately I do not know what my next step should be, not having the knowledge

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
