I currently have a Dell Optiplex GX270 - Service Tag = 7MRV431

the current processor is "PROCESSOR, 80532, 2.26, 512K, 533, SOCKET N, C1"

my question is, i was looking on newegg.com for an upgrade - i saw a 3.4ghz socket 478 - but what i was wondering is, will ANY socket 478 processor fit in there? - im mainly asking due to me wondering if there is like a, mhz cap on specific mobos etc... i also saw dual cores....

any info would be appreciated!

Can't really tell from your description

I'd download CPU-Z

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

That will tell you what kind of MB you have and what type of socket you have. I've never heard of a Socket N before.

ok -- thanks...

but what im asking is can i put ANY socket 478 chip in my mobo??

yes as long as the system bus is either 800/533/400, which i don't think the 478 has any other bus.

no it wouldn't seem so as the bus is 667, newegg only has two cpu's worth even getting and both are oem, as in just the cpu alone.

ok this is the best deal i could find and the store is a good one

its a 3.4ghz 478 socket 800mhz cpu again its oem, so you need to get a heatsink and fan separetly.

This is a good fan and heatsink

RoHS stands for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It is a European initiative that started on July 1. All electronic equipment must fall under certain standards before it can go into any European country. RoHS is going to Japan soon, followed shortly thereafter by California.

the one from ewiz is a far better deal not only is is cheaper with free shipping, but it is also faster by 400mhz

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
