This is the second time this problem has occured. After compiling my
library with CDs and downloaded music, the player works superbly.
After a couple of days, for no reason I can decipher, I encounter
problems. Primarily the following occur:
1. When I double click directly on an mp3 file in the "my music"
folder, WMP opens up but does not play the track.
2. When I right click on a track and select add to playlist, again,
wmp opens up but does not add the track to a playlist.
3. WMP has ceased to recognise any new tracks in the "my music" folder
and will not add them to the media library.
4. When copying CD to hard drive, this happens easily BUT again, wmp
does not 'see' the files when asked to include them in media library.
In other words, I can now use wmp only for tracks already in the
library but not for any new tracks.
When this first happened, I reinstalled the entire OS but this is time
consuming as I had to reload all my applications again.
On this second occasion I have done the following:
1. Used Win XP system restore
2. Booted from CD and used system recovery (non destructive)
3. attempted to follow the directions given in wmp faq:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection InstallWMP64 132
c:\windows\inf\mplayer2.inf
(Point it to the Windows XP CD)
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection InstallWMP7 132
c:\windows\inf\wmp.inf
(Point it to the Windows XP CD)
Could someone explain exactly what these instructions mean?
NOTHING has worked so far. PLease help!
Thank you!!!!
