Problem with shared files

I've been having the problem that most have had around here with XP and their avi or other media files not letting users delete or do anything else with them because they are supposedly being "shared or used by another user" when that is simply not the case.

Anyhow, I've figured out how to delete them using Nero's browser, but the thing is, a few files I actually want to keep and keep using. They're fairly hard to find and I don't know if I can find them again.

So I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to release this files or whatever so that they can be viewed, copied, and used again?

I tried burning the files, but since they are supposedly being used by someone else or something they can't be burned in Nero or Cdcreator.

Right now they're just stuck in their folder and I can't do anything but delete them.

Any advice?

I'm not positive, but i think that files that are in use can be copied from one location to another with no hassle. As far as why they won't delete, I don't have a clue.
