Problem with recent Vistas auto update & firefox

Since recently updating itself my Vista running laptop is having major problems.

It often freezes and is particularly bad when running Firefox. It will lock up shortly after starting the application and require a power down to recover.

It occasionally tells me that a search indexing service has stopped running, but this doesn't always result in a fatal crash.

Just now firefox refused to start & required reinstalling (a known issue with seemingly) but after this it crashed again and the whole programme was wiped after the checkdisk function binned a load of files during the restart.

Dunno, what's windows 7, and by the way thanks for your help.

Move it please to the Vista section.

Oh there isn't one.
did the laptop come with vista, and how old it is ?
Dell XPS laptop w/ vista home premium loaded, < 1year old.

Hasn't crashed since as I've nto run firefox. Infact the 3rd installation of firefox today has vanished!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
