Problem with disappearing program icons

For some reason I have random directories when in File Explorer, the icon for .exe files are missing. Only new files I have downloaded will show their icons.

First Welcome at NTFS, lordbelial :D

Did not quite understand the part with the "random directories", are you saying that the exe-icons are only missing in some folders? What if you newly download a exe, does this show the icon? There were only zip, rar and ace in your screenshot.

Anyway you can check this registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\DefaultIcon
it should have the Default value
%1

Look closely at the screenshot. There are lots of .exe files. The one with a white icon are the .exe files. The ones with the stack of books icons are the zip and rars. The exe's in the screenshot all except one have the bland white icon instead of the ones they are supposd to have.

I did look closely at your screenshot. The exe files show the standard application icon and not the specific icon of the program. So this was no screenshot showing newly downloaded files??
Did you read my post? Did you check the registry? Does the problem only appear in some folders?

I did look at the registry and everythign was fine. In the screenshot the Kazaa Lite files was newly downloaded and has its specific icn while all the others simple have a generic icon. This only happens in 2 directories out of thousands.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
