problem with CONNEXANT modem

hey, i recently bought a CONNEXANT modem...a 56K one...and Windows XP recognised it as "BEST BEST DATA FAX Modem"

..now when i tried connectin...it just aint dialing..can someone plz help me out??
the device is working properly coz it works for me on ME.. i had the same problem with my MOTORLA SM56 ISA modem..but that modem wasnt being recognised by XP

If you have a driver disk with XP drivers on it then update the drivers through Device Manager.

well i had the same problem.. and the drivers i got are windows 2000 drivers..but it just doesnt work..

Track down their website and see if they have any XP drivers available. If not you'll need to email or call them to see if they're going to develop XP drivers for your modem.

I,m usins the same modem. It was recognised by XP Home Ed
and it's using Microsoft drivers 5.0.0.2 , which shipped with XP,
though it did work for me on earlier install of XP with generic
2000 drivers. When I originally ran the Hardware checking prog,
bfore getting XP it did highlight it as potential conflict, but
knowing Msoft, maybe I got lucky??!!

I also am useing the same modem device manager lists it as Generic 56K HCF Data Fax Modem. useing Microsoft 5.0.0.2 Driver

mine was recognized as 'Dell Fax Data Modem' or something. I just ran Windows Update and updated the drivers...

I forgot to say My modem is in PCI slot 5 and IRQ 11.
In Device Manager under the diagnostics tab what happens when you press the Query Modem button

I use a Diamond Modem and had the same probs, then I was told that XP installs it's own drivers (Generic) and you have to go into your modem disc... load and select (on Device manager) the driver that discribes your modem.
Now I only have the problem of the modem dialing after 3-4 attempts.but at least it works eventually.

or
Generic 56K HCF Data Fax Modem.

k......where can i get Microsoft 5.0.0.2 Drivers?????
i cant run windows update.....coz the modem aint workin...LOL

I've checked it in Device mangler and it reads as follows:-

can't remember how I did it now........ but think I went through control panel> system> modem properties> and changed from generic to the one that names my Modem

The driver versions i quoted must be official as they shipped with
XP home ed Official version. i never tried the beta versions

Have you been to www.bestdata.com yet?
Their Tech support page has a compatibilityy list.
Most of their pci ones are XP compatible.
Conexants home page advises using theirs as STOP GAP
only. ps, I know this message is probably stating the obvious.........

nope i dont think i downloaded the softk56 drivers...
