Problem with CDRW!!!

I am currently using the Benq 24x10x40 CDRW. For the past few months, i have realised that my new CDRW has problems with reading CDs. When I install games like Galactic Battlegrounds, it will start off reading the cd slowly. Suddenly, it will spin at a tremendous speed and next, there will be an error with reading.
Please help me as this is my new com. that is less than half-a-year old. Thanks.

My Setup:
MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
AMD Athlon XP 2000
Kingston 64 DDR PC2700
Abit GeForce 3 Ti200 64mb DDR
Maxtor ATA-133 7200rpm 40GB
<<BENQ 24X10X40 CD-RW>>
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Try disabling DMA. I have an AOPEN 24x10x40 CD-RW and I always had problems until I turned off DMA.

Check the CD, scratched or something. If not your CD lens needs cleaning, i recommend you open your CDrw

Most likely if this happening to a bunch of CDR's or CDRW's then it is the first stages of the drive going

Might want to look into another CDRW

I was wondering if changing the PIO modes ( 0,1,2,3,4,5 ) in the BIOS will help to solve the problem.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
