Problem with AIM

I have a friend who I frequently chat with on aol instant messenger, but everytime I start to talk to him, near the beginning, he starts to type something and send it, and it replaces it with some http address full of numbers (not his ip, or gateway, etc.). He's run antivirus programs and he did have a virus, but he managed to get rid of that, and he's still having the same problem. Anyone have any ideas?

If he is still having the same problem then he obviously has not gotten rid of the virus. Try running Ad-aware and see if that picks up on anything.

This virus also affects YIM. I have not noticed this happening on MSNM. Just make sure you don't click the URL. Good luck.

Ok, thanks for the advice.

I forgot to mention that the virus is a Bloodhound.VBS.Worm (if that's the one you're thinking of), which can be tricky to get rid of, I know, but I'm pretty sure that it's gone. But I'm not even sure that the virus is what's causing it, as from my research and what I know, that virus only messes with regedit and outlook express type stuff. Is it even the one that you've seen that causes this problem?

As your friend tried a uninstall/reinstall of AIM? He might have got rid of the virus but it might have left some corrupt files behind.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
