Printer Frustration -- Need solution

Here is the senerio...

I have a small office network with 2 computers and 1 printer. 1 computer is a desktop the other a laptop.. desktop running Win XP Pro, laptop running Win XP Home.. Printer is Minolta Page Pro 1250W laser. Currently working with a wired network.

On the back of the printer there are 2 ports.. LPT and USB.. LPT is connected to the desktop and the USB is connected to the laptop. Everything works just fine... but as soon as I reboot the desktop, the printer no longer works. I have to uninstall the printer, reboot the desktop, then reinstall the printer. Then it works just fine..

If I reverse the cabling, it doesn't matter how many times I reboot the desktop, it works fine... same with the laptop.

I have reinstalled the OS, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the LPT port.. someone mentioned to me about rolling over the registry, But I am not famillar with that.

What I would like to find out, if anyone has any insight as to what I can do to remedy this problem...

I am waiting for US Robotics to replace my wireless router with printer port and hopefully I can just print via the network, but until that happens, I need to use the printer this way..

Please let me know...

Thank you

Welcome to the forums thefish. (I'm off fishing tomorrow)

See if you can find anything here.

I went to Micro$oft, but I couldn't find anything that related to the problem that I currently have. I posted a message on their newsroom forum and we will see if that will work..

Thank you for the advise..

It has been determined that the LPT port is bad on the desktop. I will try to get a new one to see if that is the problem.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
