power dvd xp problems

have up graded to power dvd 4 for xp but since the install my player will play but the picture is to light or dark, tried the setting conrols etc but nothing will fix this problem.
laptop.
 
are you running it with hardware acceleration? cause this makes you unable to change the brightness
