Power Converstion?

If someone bought a PC in the US, and wanted to bring it to New Zealand, what would they have to do to get it to work? NZ runs 240V/5A. I really don't know much about electrical things, what does the US use?

we use 120v. almost all power supplies have a small switch in back to select whether it will be using "115v" or "230v". just make sure the switch is set accordingly before firing it up or else you might have a problem.

that's it. :)

All you have to do is switch the that switch to 230? Even though NZ has 240? I know that you'd need a cord converter too.

220 = 230 = 240... same thing. depends on who you ask.

Why don't you just buy a new power supply in NZ, is the option other wise most PSU have a switch on the back with 110v and 230v,

Ok thanks. This was for a friend I have in NZ. He wants to buy an AlienWare PC and use it in NZ. thanks for the help guys.

No it's not! But normally the difference is small enough for the equipment to handle anyway. Most of the time.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
