After installing my new 80gb Western Digital HDD the screen that appears as soon as you switch on the PC seems to take ages (around 15 seconds) to identify my HDDs, CD ROMs etc. This used to only take a couple of seconds.

Any ideas of why this is happening, or better still how to speed it up?

Thank you! :)

one of my signature 'tweaks' is to go into the bios and set the harddrives to manual instead of auto-detect... and change the other auto setting (don't remember what it's called) to LBA for each hd. this shaves a few seconds off the post time. in your case, maybe 15 seconds. :)

Thanks Tauras...took a few secs off!

Its still painfully slow tho!

I've seen a similar effect when the floppy has been broken/missing/disconnected/wrongefully connected. Does yours work ok?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
