Pioneer DVR-A03

My A03 dvd writer has suddenly stopped recognising cds but plays any dvd based media fine, although i can access cd based files via nero (file browser as if i was compiling a new disc), anyone have any ideas why.

Recently upgraded to firmware 1.80, A03 is the only rom drive in the computer, running XP home edition.

any driver details ? have done any suspicious changes to it's settings ?

Not done any changes the drivers are the latest via 4-1 drivers (ide)
