Pictures next to news stories?

How about this idea:

Every time you post a news story, instead of just linking to a pic use this code:

img1.gif are images for Orbitz and img2.gif are images for Ekko.

(Attached edited AOL and Google Images that should look nice with a dark theme)

We are in discussion about the news post images.
Right now I am thinking that there should be no images with transparent backgrounds, be a sensible size.
If an image does have a transparent background then it should be converted to a rectangular image with a suitable background.

Or someone can actually sit down and do a collection of Icons that would look decent with both themes.

Why does NTFS always get compared to Neowin and the likes?

The no icons makes it so much neater. And faster to load, the more pics, the longer it takes to load.

I say we just stop trying to compare NTFS with other sites, and not use news icons as well, if the title doesnt catch your attention then i dont see why we should add a news icon to catch the attention.

The think with neowin is that all their themes are fundamentally the same, with the news box being the same colour so they have one news icon for all.

Erm.. EP - all the themes have their own individual bit of code for the images in news posts...

Index Pages -> News post bits -> main_news_post_logo

just change the path in there to different folders - and create two sets of images - one for ekko and one for orbitz - should sort out this dilemma.

Although if yer want to work off one set of images... could always utilize those good ol' GD libraries... I have to admit though... better to stick with simple solutions

yer, I guess there is always that.
for other colours we would need a new theme as the current ones really don't work out of their own context.

But like I said, before I do that the entire site has to be W3 compliant.

Benny's idea sounds perfect! Finaly an idea from me is going back on the drawing board. The idea making it so that it loads a diffrent icon depending on which theme is being used is great.

I made a template in which you can paste an Orbitz tuned news icon inside the white area decorared with Ekko style borders. Because it's white, the edges in white on the graphic won't show!
