[php] .htaccess file tutorial needed

Hey All,

I have been reading through apache's tutorial on the .htaccess file setup, and I can't understand it at all. I do get some of the basics, but I cannot get it to work at all. I am scrapping the mess I have created so far and starting over.

I was wondering if someone here can direct me as to where the small files needs to be put in, what is in them. I do run my own Apache servers right now.

Let's say for example:

My existing site: ///www.mysite.com///
Subfolder I want locked: ///www.mysite.com/test///
Username: user
Password: pass

I have created the .htaccess text file and the .htpasswd text file but I still can't get it to work. I don't know if these are created correctly (.htaccess.txt?) And where to put them in my directories.

I am using Win2003Server with Apache

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, SpeedyB

No go with that one as well. I seem to be doing something wrong somewhere. How do I save files as ASCII instead of binary? Maybe that's my problem.

Awesome, Speedy,

Looks EXACTLY what I am looking for.

Gonna give it a try later on tonight,

Thanks a million, SpeedyB

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
