PHP date?

I accept a input of type text from a website.... and i would like my php script to take lets say the number 10102007 as input and convert into a date() format in PHP and then see if it a future date or past. Im trying to book hotels, so availability wise.

you may need to do some processing before hand and send it over to date() later.
