PC TO PC data transfer

ok i have an old pc, and it doesnt have a usb connection but i need some files to be transfered from it to my new pc.

im thinking using a parrell to parrell conection?

can u do that ?

what software do i need or downloads? or what ?

how simple is it ?

just plug and play?
There is a direct cable app in Windows (was in 98 should be in XP too) that can handle both parallell and serial links. You must have a special link cable though.

What you need is called a Direct Connect Cable. They sell them at Wal-Mart for $5.96 (looks like a printer cable, but it is 25 pin male on both ends.)

When setting up the connection, make sure Direct Cable Connection is installed on both computers (it will be under accessories), AND you must have IPX/SPX protocol installed.

Good luck!

sweet, thanks. i'll remember that.

also, nevs.. you can also just remove the harddrive from the old computer and connect it to the newer one. much faster transfer speed and maybe less of a hassle, depending.

Ep, glad to see you come back and tidy up...did want to ask a one day favor, I want to enhance my resume , was hoping you could make me administrator for a day, if so, take me right off since I won't be here to do anything, and don't know the slightest about the board, but it would be nice putting "served administrator osnn", if can do, THANKS
