Check the environment variables (not at an XP system at the moment, but I believe it's System Properties - Advanced - Environment Variables)

Yes Allan, thats right... defaults are
TEMP %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
TMP %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
TEMP %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
TMP %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp

EP - that would be the default Temporary directories, but isn't there a path statement in there as well? And thanks for the corroboration.

Yes, at the bottom of the Environment Variables page there's a comspec section that includes an editable path statement.
