overclocking a Celeron 1.2ghz CPU

man, overclocking a celeron is like putting on a turbo muffler and a rear spoiler on a Geo Metro. Sure it sounds better and looks better, but it's still a Geo Metro.

:) verry well said, but you gotta start somewhere, even though ajsx15 should get an o/c board.

if he does get it to work finally, there would be no shame in overclocking a celeron. everyone who overclocks just wants to get extra performance with what they have in front of them.

for instance, my girlfriend has a 4-cylinder automatic jetta... but there's nothing wrong with buying a p-chip from neuspeed and k&n filter and popping them in! }:> easy extra 15hp, which is noticeable.

and yes vdub, i'm a fan... don't have one of my own yet, but once i get another job and sell this ranger, i'll get myself a clean mkII gti 16v. }:> nice car you have, btw... any mods?

ajsx15... just so you know, it's possible to go to that thread you accidentally started and delete it, since you made it... just thought i'd let you know.

:D i dig it man go for it,gti are quick one of my other picks. and yes i agree w/ what you said about o/c thats why i said you have to start somewhere. give em a year he'll be on here talking about a dual asus board w/ ddr ram and a gforce12 :D

celeron overclocking

i used celeron 950 MHz and i can overclock to 1296 MHz with no problem . just increase you bus speed --> default 100 MHz . increase to 133 MHz .

Really helps to have an overclocking friendly mobo !

Something like an Abit or maybe even an Asus.....Gateways make/modify their own mobo's so I know they're not to friendly!

Not a speed record by ANY means, but I have my 667mhz Celeron running at 900mhz with just a stock fan and only a heatsink on my Abit chipset, so it's VERY easy to get them going much faster !!

thats the info u'll probably need
jus look up that motherboard in the list
or somethin like that
ie: D815E

it is probably that one...
then jus change the FSB
untill u feel suitable...just make sure heat isn't a problem

sup dude. im gonna check out what i can about your board see if there is any other software you can use to up your speed or change your bios and even see if your board will support an o/c chip.

already been to that site. no help, i tried softfsb but i cant use it becuase it doesnt support my board. please keep looking, i am looking too.

yeah i see you have a Intel (kittyhawk1.5) mobo. now gateway does have an update for your bios. Have you tried talking to them? B/c im dont know if they locked your cpu to your board, if they did then no matter what you wont be able to o/c, so i suggest that you talk to them through there support the site is

http://support.gateway.com/support/detailedinfo.asp?sn=0025995601

go to the contact us tab and chat w/ one of there techs online, i had a gateway 2k back in the day and they helped me out a lot.
like you i wanted to o/c or at least change the cpu and i couldnt untill i got a bios/driver update.

Good luck:D

Do you happen to have a computer store around your house(not bestbuy) if you do you might want to check them out ,try to get a new mobo, one that will let you o/c sometimes they have good used ones or a good sale on a new one either way your looking any where between $50-$250 depending on what you are looking for. try to stick to abit, msi, or asus......might be others but those are the ones i know of. and if you dont have a local pc shop try online

the case is propriatary, i cant put in another motherboard. it wont fit at all. already tried to find the right one. if i update the bios, what will that do?

well the board isnt locked or anything, like i mean i dont think it is, i was going to buy the 1.3ghz celeron from gateway, and they said it would work on this board, but i dont have the money to buy it, they wanted $110. so i will update the bios tonight and see what i can do.

normal bios from gateway most likely won't do much for you as far as overclocking abilities. but from what vdub says, i guess they'll help you obtain a special bios that will let you. gonna hafta call em up... or save for a real computer. }:>

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
