Overactive Fan

Hello all!
I have a question regarding my Dell Inspiron 8600's fan.....
It seems to be acting up lately. In fact, it's almost always on. I know it didn't use to do this. I don't think it's because of the weather. I even have the laptop perched up a little bit with something underneath it, so as to let the heat dissipate better.

Even simple tasks like scrolling down through my Itunes library will send the fan blazing. Is it clogged? Is it due to low harddrive space? ( i have 5 gigs available.) I'm not really sure what to do...... any input would help. Thank you very much.

Probably clogged unless the battery is running down faster in which case it could be malware running in background.

Get a can of "canned air" and blow out the air passages.

Just for grins check the windows performance monitor and make sure that most of the cpu activity is 99% in idle process (doing nothing). If it's not something is running in background.

I know for my Compaq, google video makes the CPU fan kick into turbo mode.
