Hi, I currently have my hard drive formated under FAT32. I video edit with Premiere and cannot capture files bigger than 4gig. If i format to NTFS than i can capture files up to 1000gig. Would there be any compatablility issues, would it be slower, etc... would i loose any functionality or speed AT ALL by using NTFS instead of FAT32? Ok, thanks.

Make a long story short here ... minor speed gains in some places, minor speed losses in others. It pretty much evens out in the end, especially when working with larger files.

The only real compatibility issues you'll find is with apps designed for direct disk access, i.e. virus scanners, defraggers, etc. ... and most of those are NTFS-aware anyway.

i believe NTFS is designed more for networks. FAT32 is perfect for home use and i've heard it's a faster file system. i'd stick with FAT32.

I'm sold on ntfs. Just educate yourself on how to recover from a crash because a typical boot disk won't 'see' ntfs and you could lose your data if you don't know how to recover. However, I've found ntfs very stable and I haven't lost a single cluster since I converted, and I've managed to hang my machine on many occasions ripping dvd's.

As far as good for 'home' use, my thinking is that one of these days you'll need to have ntfs to manage the new larger hard drives that are coming out, and you might want to learn what it is before you're 'forced' into it - just a thought.

NTFSis fine if you have a bigger hard drive yet it is a little slower

Try it if you like it buy it

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
