not booting up properly

please can anyone help, a few of my m8s have xp pro the same as me but they have no problems. my problem is that sometimes on bootup no icons appear in the system tray only the clock ?? and i cannot launch any programs or click on the start button ,i have to Ctrl,Alt,delete to restart the pc, any ideas would be useful, thanx.

I had the same problem when I had 2 graphics cards in the same machine but i downloaded the latest drivers and it worked fine
