NFS HS is not valid win32 app error

I got this error during the launch of the game. I use XP pro with Voodoo Banshee.

you need to grab the latest patches for the game , install them and it should run fine ......

If it doenst, use the compatability mode to a version windows it worked on .....

There is a compatability patch at www.nfscheats.com for NFSHS to work in Win2k but it also works for XP

I cant seem to download with that site because it brings up all of this sturff I need to sign up for and when i find out I have to pay I cancel everything. Is there a way to get through that cause Im having the same problem with NFS.
