New system [ operating system unitified ]

Got a new system .. & probably forgot to format HDD ( was partitioned by them before ) .. had no O.S but after installing XP on starting lets me choose :

1. Windows XP Pro ( that I've installed )
2. Unitified operating system ( what's that ? )

What can be done ? thanks a lot

edit your boot.ini and remove the extra line

Check your partitions.. is XP the only partition on there?
if not, there's *shock* space going to waste if it is then as sboulema says, just pop open boot.ini and remove the offending item

your boot.ini should look like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /KERNEL=LOGOOS.EXE

Start > run > notepad c:\boot.ini

sboulema, you have the extra kernel param, which isnt required.
Take a look at the attached file for a default boot.ini file.

what file system are you using and what file system is that spare partion in? how big is it... this is pretty much just for personal knowledge, Im' interested too see what happend.

I've left FAT32 as on the other machine ..
Partitions : C - 10 GB
D - 30 GB

the problem got resolved .

could it be like a restore installation option put in by the manufacturer? choosing that option will reinstall your machine or something... no idea personally - its a thought though.
