Looking at some parts for a cousins new computer, and would like some outside input.

Okay, here's the specs:
preferrably be under $3k Canadian
it's going to be order from and to Canada. This means that such popular favorites such as newegg and zipzoomfly aren't valid sites to get "great deals" from

Thanks for any input

i have the same dvd rw and i love it, so i can vouch for that. Your system sounds good to me, I think the ram is a little expensive, unless you are going to Overclock you dont need that expensive ram.,,,,,,..,my opinion

yeah getting ram with lower timimgs is good, but i dont think its worth spending 100 bucks over regular ram to get it.IMO if your cousin runs benchmarks for a living then get the ram, but if u just want sumthing to play music, vids, surf the net do some homework and some gamming, cheaper ram is just fine. also i think ur spending too much for the keyboard, just get like a 20 dollar one itll work just fine.

and do you really need a 8ms response time for your LCD? if gaming is ur cousin's main thing then get it but for more general use and the occasional game , LCDs with 16ms will be fine.

thanks for the opinions.
I've already talked him down about $150 on the ram already, I'll try to talk him down some more. He's not planning on oc'ing, and isn't a benchmark whore as far as I know, so some cheaper ram will probably make more sense.

I think he is planning on playing a fair amount of games (he really should be studying instead), but I'll mention that about the monitor as well.

Thanks guys :)

About the monitor, for that price if he must have one for gaming specs as noted previously, have him get a 20" with a better resolution if he stands firm on the quality of the monitor you should get one at around that price..

and Like elektro said ... get a lower cost mouse/keyboard maybe a combo... Logitec is a great brand ... never had one let me down. Matter of fact I just ordered an MX518 and with shipping it only came out to $41 USD

Also this monitor is cheaper than what you listed and same basic specs, for almost $100 cheaper

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
