"New programs installed" message

Every time I click on the start button I get the message that new programs are installed. That would be fine as I have installed some new ones but those don't even show up in the program list. The ones that have been installed from day one are showing up as newly installed and the message won't go away. It's driving me nutty! Please help.

Thanks!!

You can remove it by doing the following:

- Right click on the start menu
- Properties
- Customise "Start menu"
- Advanced
- Uncheck "Highlight newly installed programs"

;)

Thank you - now do you have any idea why the ones I did install don't even show up in the list of programs? They are in the c/programfiles folder but not on the pop up menu you see when you click start>programs.

Not all programs will install links on the start menu, easiest way to do it is to right click on "All programs" on the start menu and make the shortcuts yourself, also easy to cut out all the clutter. Notice tho that not all shortcuts will be visable as they are stored in two different locations, both "All users" and "<username>".

Thank you so much - now if you could just talk HP into answering my questions that quick and not giving me the standard "check faq" answer I'd be just peachy!!!

Welcome Gracie :)
Why bother with HP when you have XP-erience.org? :D

Ok LOL - Just installed a new HP printer last night (which co-insides with the new programs that aren't new) and installed it with the usb cable instead of the other. Now I have the "safely remove hardware" icon in my task bar. Can't get rid of it. Ideas?

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
