I think i must have missed something when buying m'new mobo.

Look at the pic below, what is the blue thing just under the PCI slots? I would check the manual but they've supplied the wrong one (nice!).

Apparently it's an ACR slot.
ACR
Audio Communications Riser, a slot that is only used by large OEMs to add cheap devices to their computers. Since ACR devices are software based, they often times sap a lot of CPU resources

It's a special slot designed specificially for communication. Usually, the device you would put into it would be a modem. Modems for that slot cost around $4-5 so it's a good choice if you are looking for a cheap modem. Otherwise, there is no other real function for it.

You can just go to their website and download the manual (then take the file in to work and print it). Everybody has .pdf versions of their manuals posted now.

Do they have ACR modems too? I thought that they only had AMR modems.

interesting board... Does this mean your bits ALL wrrived and that ATI card is up for (my) grabs now? 😉 EMail me whenever - I can imagine you have plenty to do and opening boxes is more exciting than packing 'em up.... On which subject I hope you have all the stuff the ATI came with - and when you have time could you let me know - just so I can get more excited....
