My buddy's pc is crashing when he plays games.... We are having trouble pinning it to anything in particular. He just built a new pc, but he is using the same vid card and same OS (XP or else i wouldn't be posting here). His video is a Geforce 4 MX 420, he has a motherboard with a via chipset(Shuttle AK35GT), Atholon XP 2200+ processor, 512megs of ddr ram PC2700..... I read something about compatibility between via and nvidia. I don't know what that is about, but if anyone could contact and help us out that would be great. Oh, it just crashes, sometimes locks up and then sends an error report other times just jumps to the desktop. me= race_d@helpmejebus.com

please. help :p

coupla quick questions to help figure out what it may be...

did he format his hard drive and do a clean install of the operating system?

winxp does require that to run smoothly after major hardware changes even though it will work with the changes...

if possible post error msgs here or anything else...

best thing to do if format/clean install has not been done is to go ahead and do it... also please make sure that the drivers are upto date and your motherboard bios is also up to date...

if he is oc'ing his rig, take it back down to default...

:)

Yeah,
new harddrive, reintalled XP a couple of times, used several drivers. Installed the 4 in 1 drivers for VIA chipsets.... I don't know but i think there might be some compatibility issues...

well you can try putting a different vid card into his rig and trying out his card in another rig...

I always use process of elimination in order to determine what could be wrong with a rig...

yeah,
That is what i was thinking. I will give that a try.... :(

a little cooler then my machine and i don't experience those problems.....

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
