Network tips

Does anybody knows how what should I do
(if it can be done) so that when I browse
my network the computer names should
appair first, instead of their description
(when showing the entire list of computers)

Please answer if you know!

right click, rename it

that's all you need to do. i tried it and it stuck even when i restarted. i am assuming you are referring to using windows explorer...

I need help in some explorer options.
When browsing the local network
wiht explorer the computer description are showed first
like this :
hound dog (lexy)

where houng dog is the computer description
and lexy is the computer name

What I want is that the computer name should be first showed

like this:
lexy (hound dog)

if you know how please tell me!

errr, read it again

That's what I just told you how to do. In explorer, select the folder called, as you described it, "hound dog (lexy)" and right click on it. Select "rename", and then change it to what you want, as in your example, "lexy (hound dog)".

Unless you are using a different Windows Explorer than me, that's all you need to do.

Hmmmmmmmmm

That's not what I've asked.

It's imposible to rename a computer, it is not a folder,

it's something that is showed in explorer when you

browse a network (not your local harddisks), it is not a

resource that can be modofied, so...

It's about the way explorer display first the description,

then the name.

It's realy hard to find somebody when searching by name

because of the description (in front of name)

yikes.

sorry, i was thinking of Sharename/Computername, which of course you can rename in Explorer. In terms of description (computername), that's a tough one. I will look into it...

No I Don't, I had a good poke around the registry, found where it inserts the computer name, but nothing for the description
