Friend is asking to network a printer(with ethernet connection socket). Using a bthome hub router. He would like to network his printer to be accessable through a desk top hard wired to the router and a laptop using wireless through the router again. Is this possible and what is the easiest way to do it? Desktop running XP and laptop running Vista. He also doesn't want to network the PC's together is possible.

I hate installing included printer software so here's what I would do.

Download the PS or PCL drivers direct from Dell.com, unzip them to a temp directory, manually add a port for the IP address (see below), and manually install the printer on that port (do not use the automatically detect funtion).

To add a port:
Printers
Right click
Server Properties
Ports
Add Port...
Standard TCP/IP Port
etc.

What Matt said should work. Usually, it is easier with the software though. When installing it you will get the option to select whether it is a network printer or lined printer. You will have to install the software on all computer that will be accessing the printer; wired or wireless. Something else you have to look at as well is that the processing speed might be a little slower on the wireless then it is on the wired.

Thanks for your repsonses. We are offshore working at the moment for the next 10 days so will let you know how we get on.

What is the PC or PCL drivers are they different from the drivers on the CD?

Other than that they may be newer versions of the driver and software downloaded from dell.com instead of what's on the CD, there should be no difference.

I prefer PS (PostScript) drivers over PCL (Printer Command Language) because of the way PS handles fonts.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
