Netsetup.exe wont run on 98SE

I let XP create a set-up disk for the 98 PC but every time I ran netsetup.exe the PC said something about restrictions being in force preventing the program from running.

In the end I configured the network and internet settings manually on the client (98SE) PC and my ICSC works.

But I was wondering if anyone else had come across problems using the XP created netsetup.exe disk

I am using XP Home on the ICS Server and Windows 98SE on the client.

I gave up configuring my client PC#2 (Win98SE) with the XP net setup disk.
The problem is that I don't want my PC#1 to act as an ICS.
I want both comps to connect to the internet independently through a switch to my modem.
The drawback is now that I can't share files over my LAN with ICFirewall(XP) and Zonealarm(Win98SE) running :(

(P.S. I've read JJB's Networking post - will probably give it another try some day ;) )

The netsetup disk is solely for ICS. If you don't want ICS, you shouldn't even have that disk created in the first place.

You can do what you say, connect directly to the modem, provided you have two IP addresses from your ISP. If you only have one, you will HAVE to use ICS, or you will have to purchase a router, which will do the same thing.

I know the disk was kind of waste - but I were in "XP-erimenting mood" that day ;)

Until I received my 2nd IP address couple of months ago I were actually forced to do it "the ICS way" :D

When I got the second IP - I struggled for a day or so with my LAN configuration (even went as far as installing NWLink IPX/SPX protocol - the only IPX I can find in XP?!).
I guess(!) it won't work because my 2 IPs are "dynamic" and they don't share the same subdomain. I got them to share files over the internet - but hey ! How great is that at 256/128 speed :(

Anyway as said before I give it another try one of these days !

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
