Netscape 7, it rocks!

Man, I never thought I'd be impressed enough by Netscape soon, but it seems they managed to finally release a version that is really useful.

Netscape 7 has a lot more features, and they especially tweaked the mail client, which is now VERY advanced!

And guess what, you can now EDIT accounts settings (pop server address) without having to redo the whole mail account, which was a real pain.

They added some mail filtering habilities, and it runs a bit faster from what I could see too.

I suggest everyone gives it at least a try! It's worth the download!

Yeah I installed it this morning, and I plan on trying it out.

I've always been a Netscape fan and there's no doubt 6.x and 7.x are fast, good browsers. But ever since version 4.9 (which I still use in conjunction with IE), none of the newer Netscape browsers have auto-checked my email. The only way I know I have new mail is to manually click on the Get Mail button. This has only happened in version 6.0 and later (including Mozilla pr1). I know it's a known issue, but it's never been fixed. Has anyone here ever found a fix or work-around?

I never liked the way Netscape dealt with table allignments slightly differently.

In Mail and Newsgroup accounts settings, go in Server Settings and check "Check for mail at startup". It's unchecked by default.

You've got to remember something about Netscape speed by the way.. IE isn't faster. It only opens faster because of the way it's embded in the OS.

Netscape 7 has "Netscape Quicklaunch" which can stay in the tray and it loads Netscape a LOT faster.

IE doesn't take less memory either, it uses some system resourses you cannot see when you look only at iexplore.exe in the task list. It only APPEARS to be faster and less memory eating, but in fact, it's not.

I agree that the fact netscape is using Java to run makes it a little slower on slow PC's that don't have a lot of RAM, but for the ones that have 256Mb and up, it's VERY fast! I have 512Mb myself, on a PIII 866. I'm sure a lot of you have more than this.

As for the AOL thing... just don't install anything that has AOL in its description. If you do a custom install, you can toggle a lot of the junk out. The only thing I couldn't remove is the embded AOL IM, but I just never open it.

And for the HTML processing capabilities, and table alignment.. well, you should try Netscape 7 before you say that. I loaded many pages I made almost entirely created using StyleSheets and very complex tables, and it all appeared perfectly. It even sees iframes now. As far as the scripting is concerned, it's just as good as IE now.

Oh, and a good thing about the new version, is that you can toggle the execution of scripts for the Navigator, Mail reader and News reader.

In other words, you can toggle auto script execution of emails.. something OE still can't do.

Everything is properly set and checked - it simply does not work. As I said, it's a known issue. I'm just hoping someone found a cure.

Now Im not a Netscape fan... But I think it is based on Mozilla..

Netscape 7.0 Released
Posted by LightWave on Friday, May 24 @ 09:00:00 BST

Netscape Communications Corp. released a preview version of Netscape 7.0 browser. This version was designed to fight the Browser Wars and win it.

The browser has features like tabbed navigation and commercial radio. The new navigation system allows users to surf tabbed pages. These are kept in a single window and can be accessed any time. Version 7.0 is based on Mozilla's browser engine Gecko.

Netscape 7.0 will focus on music, shopping, downloads and searches, as well as an integrated IM from AOL, the parent company of Netscape.

At work i have to use netscape 4.79 which isnt a bad program...6.X are all pure crap...7.0 is better then 6.X so far but i still need to play more..still dont think it outdoes IE. The only thin g i like about Netscape is its mail program isnt as susceptible to viruses. Which norton handles for me =)
