Hi Guys,

I don't know how intel rates their cpu's by model number.

But I am wondering what would be a great bang-for-the-buck CPU/Mobo combination.

Decided to use 4x1gig RAM sticks.

The mobo needs sli, raid and killer onboard sound options. Preferably looking in the ASUS lineup of mobo's.

Got the Vista 64bit, 2x8800GTX's, and five HD's (3 for stripe raid, and 2 for mirror raid) waiting for the setup.

Looking for straightup, standalone gaming machine.

Don't know if it means much, but what do you think of the q6600 quad?

This is for a work partner of mine, not for me.

Thanks,

Heeter

I'm thoroughly confused by your post, mainly since it begins with "bang for the buck", then ends with a bunch of parts which in no way attempt to provide bang for the buck. So I'll just leave that beginning part out so I can give you a sensible answer.

I recommend the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 highly; it's top of the line and matches with the other quality parts in your system. Also, the EVGA 132-CK-NF79-A1 motherboard would be a nice complement for the processor. It is literally packed with every feature you could ever wish for and them some...Dual gigabit ethernet, 7.1 surround with both optical and coax outputs, and an external SATA on the back plate. Additionally, it has six internal SATA ports, exceeding your requisite five with room to spare.

Thanks,

I realize this when you posted,

This is what I got asked from a coworker. Since all I know is that Intel is the way to go but I don't know what the designations stand for.

Thanks for those specs, btw.

checking that mobo out now.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
