Mysterious Search Bar in IE

I've got this search bar that just recently started showing up when I open IE. Doesn't matter if I select if from showing, it'll still be there if I open a new window. Also, i think connected, is that I set up search to do a google search when i type a query in the address bar. Now that doesn't work and I get no customize options with search. I've tried running adaware and spybot and neither one have picked up anything. Anyone got any ideas or seen this before?

I had a similar one not so long ago from a file sharing app called poilet
but adaware got rid of it > deleting some 20 odd reg keys

not much help

maybe a search through the registry might help you find the culprit

download the zip I have attached.

this will find every non ie extension that is associated with your browser.

find this, and delete it

be carefull what else you delete, as this will find every extension, even those you deliberately installed

I would just look for anything that says "search"

it will be an easier search if you delete (backup and replace), your hosts file, as this program also finds your host addresses

That's great it worked. Except one thing. I still can't get the customize option to work in IE. I like to be able to do a google search from the address bar, and usually you change it thru Search>Customize.

I think there's another way to do this, but forget how...

ok, here's a reg file that will add google to your options.

j79 has posted his own which I'm tild works better then the google reg file.

I should save that one too, but I never got around to doing it.

give j79 a pm, or search his name and google...you will find his file like that.

anyway, here is the google reg file, then go into tools, internet options, advanced, and scroll down.
