My computer will not play dvds

My computer... well, its being really annoying. i have the dvd decoders,(nero 7 essentials.) it is really choppy. there is no sound, and the window locks up. this in on my win 2k. what do i do? is it the p3 processor? or the viper video card?

i didnt think nero 7 did dvd, i would get media player classic

Does the DVD drive actually work. can you read data from it?

not really a hardware issue as it plays the DVD's .. just "choppy" as mentioned.
